Ensure that you are fit and healthy before commencing the Inca Trail trek. Allow at least 2 days in Cusco (or similar altitude) to acclimatize to the altitude. The Inca trail is a 43 Km. trek over mountainous terrain. Although many people do the trek do not expect it to be easy. The second day involves an ascent of 1200 meters. If you get out of breath easily in Cusco, are unfit or have heart or respiratory problems do not undertake this trek.
The Inca Trail hike is an adventure activity and exposes participants to the true nature of the environment visited and therefore involve an element of personal risk and exposure to potential hazards. Clients must accept that the nature of the tours is adventurous and accept these personal risks.
Persons with medical conditions that may effect there ability to complete the trek must disclose this information prior to purchasing the trip. Due to the nature of the Inca Trail clients will be walking at different speeds and not be together as a concentrated group. The guide will not be able to watch everyone all of the time. Every person, therefore, is responsible for their personal safety and must have their own suitable travel insurance.
