Inca Trail Trekking regulations 2008

New Regulation: maximum 200 trekkers a day on the Inca Trail

Since 2003, Government regulation limits the number of people on the Inca Trail to 500 per day. This includes porters, guides, cooks and other staff.

Therefore approximately 200 places are available per day for trekkers because the rest is occupied by staff and porters.

This information applies to all agencies operating the Inca Trail.

Only Licensed operators

A permit is required

To control the number of visitors on the Inca Trail a system of trekking permits is introduced. Every hiker on the Inca Trail needs an obligatory Trekking Permit.

Without a permit entry to the Inca Trail is no possible.
